Now Playing: Scott Quinn's Seasons by Karsten Boysen
Sometimes, it takes time to create a timeless feeling.
Of course, Seasons is an incredible video. In his latest section, Quinny’s skating is as solid and precise as ever, his technicality combined with a creative vision which allows him to turn the parking lot at the corner of this Hamburg street into a sick line, this typical century-old Danish building into a banger clip. His clean style highlights the architecture he flows through, his legs as powerful as ever, and it’s quite easily the best he’s looked on skates since he became a father!
Of course, it is filmed beautifully, and edited with sensitive precision by Karsten Boysen, but if you’ve paid any attention to this guy’s work before, it definitely shouldn’t come as a surprise. This time, however, he added another twist with his own still photographs which he used to highlight specific scenes, crafting an intro whose analog feel resonates strongly with the viewer. Masterpiece is a word people throw around a lot, and he’d hate me for using it, but… You know what I mean.
And of course, it wouldn’t be much without the contribution of everyone else, be it Yves & Gabriel/Vague for providing an impeccable soundtrack, Jonas for creating the titles, and all the homies for the awesome vibes and support. Yet, if on top of existing travel restrictions and local lockdowns in cities such as Aarhus, you add up the clips lost to camera malfunction, unfortunate trips to the hospital, and the birth of Quinny’s second daughter, Seasons can very easily turn into years…
“I’m super happy with the way it came out, more for the homie vibes that go on through it, Karsten laced it. Thank you for your appearance on there, that’s the stuff that really makes it for me!” - Q
But the good stuff takes time, of course. It feels like an eternity ago that Karsten joined me in Copenhagen for his second filming trip with Quinny. Seasons passed indeed, travel regulations loosened up, testing requirements as well, and hopefully, the making of such projects won’t involve working around so many hassles in the future. Yet this will serve as a reminder of a very specific time in our lives, a still frame in our collective existence, now and forever…
Timeless indeed.
